THOUGHT LADDERS - BREAKING FREE FROM NEGATIVE SELF TALK

Updated: Mar 23, 2023

So you FINALLY decide to start prioritizing your health,

And your friend mentioned that affirmations were a great way to prime your brain for success and happiness.

"I love myself"... ⁣

"I am beautiful" ⁣

"I am confident" ⁣

You give it a try… and IMMEDIATELY your brain calls bullshit 💩⁣‼️😵‍💫

The new thoughts won’t provide any positive benefit for you because you don't believe them....⁣ They may even feel WORSE, or trigger a negative thought spiral ⁣

"No you're not, that's ridiculous" ⁣

“This isn’t working” ⁣

“This is pointless.” ⁣

💭👇How to hack your brain and make affirmations work for you ⁣

Climb your way there using a thought ladder !!🪜 ⁣

Why? ⁣Because it's almost impossible to convince yourself of something that is OPPOSITE of what you believe. ⁣

If you believe that you are unattractive, ⁣telling yourself you're beautiful will come with a big backlash of negative self talk from your brain. ⁣

It's like trying to jump a huge gap... ⁣You're destined to fail,⁣ and fall down into a pit of negative self talk which further instills the negative beliefs. ⁣

Here are 4 easy steps to climbing a thought ladder

1. Start with a goal, thought or affirmation ⁣

2. If you actually feel worse, then the thought is too big of a gap from where you are now. ⁣

3. Move to a thought that is closer to the one you want to get to. Keep the thoughts simple.⁣

Choose thoughts that are: ⁣

👉Less negative than your current thought ⁣

⁣👉Neutral or void of emotional disturbance ⁣

👉Slightly more positive than your current thought ⁣

"I hate my body"⁣

"I accept my body"⁣

⁣"My body deserves love"⁣

"I take care of my body"⁣

4. Keep stacking the thoughts and practicing them for a few days until you feel a positive effect or relationship with those thoughts. ⁣

𝗣𝗿𝗼 𝘁𝗶𝗽 🤗 Practice thinking and feeling acceptance.⁣ Accepting where you are, means you've broken down the resistance to where you have to go. ⁣

⁣As someone who used to struggle with negative self-talk, I can attest to how difficult it can be to break free from those patterns. I used to look in the mirror and pick apart every flaw, and I constantly criticized myself for not being "good enough." It wasn't until I discovered the thought ladder technique that I started to see real progress in my journey towards self-love and acceptance.

At first, I was skeptical of the thought ladder. It seemed too simple to be effective. But I was tired of feeling stuck in my negative thought patterns, so I decided to give it a try. I started with a goal of feeling more confident in my body, but when I tried to say affirmations like "I am beautiful" or "I love my body," I felt like I was lying to myself. My brain immediately called BS, and I ended up feeling worse than before.

That's when I realized that the thought ladder was the missing piece. Instead of jumping from a negative thought to a positive affirmation, I needed to climb my way up to it. I started with thoughts like "I am working on accepting my body" and "My body is capable of so much," which felt easier to believe. Over time, I worked my way up to more challenging thoughts like "I am grateful for my body" and "I love and accept myself just as I am."

It wasn't an overnight transformation, but the more I practiced my ladder thoughts, the more I started to see a shift in my mindset. I was less critical of myself, and I started to appreciate my body for all that it could do. I wasn't perfect, of course - there were still days when I struggled with negative self-talk - but the thought ladder gave me a framework to work through those moments and come out the other side feeling more positive and empowered.

What I love about the thought ladder is that it's not just for body image issues. You can use it for any area of your life where you're struggling with negative thoughts or beliefs. Maybe you want to improve your self-esteem, build better relationships, or take your career to the next level. Whatever your goal, the thought ladder can help you get there. If you work on your ladder thoughts every day, you will start to shift to a more positive state and be less likely to self sabotage 🫶🏼

So if you're tired of feeling stuck in negative thought patterns, give the thought ladder a try. Start with a simple thought that feels true to you, and then work your way up to more challenging thoughts over time. With patience and practice, you might be surprised at how much your mindset can shift.
